Environmental Film showing in Whitstable 26th February

“ The End of Suburbia” will be shown at 6.45pm on Tuesday 26th February at the Horsebridge Centre (11 Horsebridge Road, CT5 1AF) in Whitstable. Tickets cost £3 on the door. All are welcome. The film showing is being organised by the Whitstable Transition Town group. Contact Jim Jackson (whit.jack@yahoo.co.uk) for more information. The End of Suburbia is a 2004 film about peak oil and its implications for the suburban lifestyle.

Transition Towns (www.transitiontowns.org) are community initiatives preparing for the transition to a low carbon economy. By preparing it is hoped to allow a ‘soft-landing’ into an oil-depleted world, rather than the economic and social disruption that high oil prices could cause an oil-dependent economy. Reducing our dependence on oil also reduces pollution and the impact of emissions on our climate. Whitstable recently gained transition town status, joining a network of over 25 towns and villages in England alone. Many other towns and villages are working towards transition status, including Canterbury.
